Happy birthday to Chicago's Queen of Gospel

Albertina continues to proclaim, “I’m Still Here.”

Albertina continues to proclaim, "I’m Still Here."

And friends, family, industry-mates and others gathered at Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester Ave., to help her celebrate her 80th birthday at a praise party that went almost until the next day.

Few complained about how long the party went on–and not too many left before it ended–as Pam Morris and gospel industry icon Bobby Jones emceed the free concert featuring award-winning, celebrated gospel artists.

Pastor Shirley Caesar, members of The Clark Sisters group and Dexter Walker and Zion Movement choir were among the high praising gospel performers at the concert.

Monday night culminated a weekend of celebrating. Saturday, Walker and her scholarship foundation were feted at a star-studded gala held in the Grand Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel.
