Hampton University is offering admission to former ITT Technical Institute students after the tech school’s abrupt closing.
ITT Technical Institute announced on Sept. 6 that it would be immediately closing all of its nation-wide locations, leaving the 45,000 students at its 130 locations without a place to go this fall. Hampton University is assisting those students in continuing their degree programs through its Hampton University-University College (HU-UC) arm, which caters to adult learners and is also the home of the university’s online learning.
“Hampton University-University College is working to create a seamless pathway for former ITT Tech students,” said Kim Luckes, J.D., dean of Hampton University-University College. “We have a new nine-week session beginning Oct. 10, so students will not have to wait until January to enroll in college again. We will work with each student to ensure their dreams of completing a certificate program, associate degree or bachelor degree becomes a reality.”
HU-UC offers students the opportunity to take classes in a face-to-face or online format. The web-based virtual campus offers students the freedom to study online anytime to earn a certificate, undergraduate or graduate degree. HU-UC offers many of the same programs that ITT offered to its student body including business management, criminal justice, nursing, paralegal and general studies.
“At Hampton U Online we strive to provide students with access to flexible, affordable, and accredited online classes,” said Dr. Janue Seaton, director of Hampton U Online. “We recently reduced tuition by 40 percent per credit hour, and we are ready to assist ITT students with their academic plans locally or at a distance.”
Interested students can stop by an informational session this week, Sept. 12 – 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. or call HU-UC at (757) 727-5773 to speak with staff about receiving a credits review, transfer evaluation, and degree completion map.
