Commemorating its 10-year anniversary, Hampton University will induct Robert Sengstacke Abbott –– Chicago Defender founder –– into the university’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications on Thursday. Sengstacke/Abbott relatives scheduled to attend the honors include great-nieces Joslyn DiPasalegne, Helena Haley and Marilyn Jivens; great-grand-nieces Danielle Coleman and Myiti Sengstacke Rice; and cousins James and Jerry Brown.
Others to be inducted in the Hall of Fame: Tony Brown (SHSJC dean emeritus and producer of “Tony Brown’s Journal”), Sheila R. Solomon (veteran journalist and recruiter), Debra A. Miller (global marketing communications expert), Allison Seymour (anchor for Fox5) and Spencer Christian (journalist).
