kevin jordanA veteran Griffin police officer was shot several times and killed while breaking up a dispute at a Spaulding County Waffle House.
Kevin Jordan, a father of seven, was working off-duty security when a high-decibel verbal altercation erupted inside the Waffle House at about 3 a.m. Two men and a woman who were allegedly causing a disturbance at a Waffle House on U.S. 19 were asked to leave the restaurant, according to Channel 2. After Jordan got them outside, the woman began fighting with him, the television station reported.
“As he was on the ground trying to cuff her,” Griffin police Officer Mike Richardson told Channel 2, “one of the males who was with her apparently brandished a firearm and shot (Jordan) three times in the back.”
The bullets pierced Jordan’s bulletproof vest. According to Channel 2 Action News, the officer was pronounced dead en route to the hospital. The three suspects are in custody in connection with the officer’s murder. Jordan had been with the Griffin Police Department for four years.
Jordan’s brother was at the Waffle House at the time of the altercation and returned fire, hitting the alleged gunman, according to the television station. The suspect, identified as Michael Bowman, 30, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Bowman’s condition is unknown at this time.
The other two suspects, Tyler Taylor, 23, and Chantell Mixon, 28, remain in custody pending charges.
