The anti-war and pro-environment Green Party will hold its national convention in Chicago.

During the convention, which gets under way Thursday, the party is expected to nominate a presidential candidate. Among those being mentioned to head the party’s ticket is former Democratic U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia, who was heavily critical of President Bush following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The Green Party has 231 elected officials around the country, and most of them are small-town mayors or members of school boards, library boards or town councils. The party has 10 candidates for Congress in Illinois. Harvard attorney Scott Summers is running against Republican Congressman Don Manzullo and Democratic challenger Robert Abboud in the 16th Congressional District. Summers says he rejects any suggestion that he is a spoiler. (AP) ______ Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
