CHICAGO – President Obama joined Governor Pat Quinn today at Quinn’s campaign event in Chicago.
The stop was one of several during Obama’s visit to Illinois. The president also gave a speech about economic recovery at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. on Thursday.
Quinn said he was excited to have Obama in town supporting his re-election campaign.
“I am thrilled to have President Obama here in Illinois today supporting my re-election campaign. President Obama laid out a bold economic vision to support the growth and success of our middle class. That’s exactly what we’ve been working to do here in Illinois,” Quinn said.
Quinn pointed out that Illinois’ unemployment rate is at its lowest in more than six years.
“Today, unemployment in Illinois is at its lowest point in more than six years, with more people working today than in the first month of my administration,” Quinn said. “We’ve added more than 39,000 new businesses, and workers are earning the eighth highest wages in the country right here in Illinois. We have more work to do, but we’re making a comeback.”
Quinn also voiced support of Obama.
“We stand in strong support of President Obama’s agenda as we work to build on our success, creating more jobs and economic growth for the future,” Quinn said. “With the President’s help – and the support of the people of Illinois – we will continue getting the job done for working families and keep Illinois moving in the right direction.”
