Get On a Path to Financial Success, Well-Being with the Chicago Treasurer’s Office “Money Smart Week”

To help Chicagoans make better financial and lifestyle choices, the Chicago Treasurer’s Office will present two financial education webinars and a support service webinar for the formerly convicted April 16-18, during “Money Smart Week.” These webinars, which are free but require advance registration, are, according to City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin,” designed to help individuals better manage their personal finances, create financial stability, and build a bright future.  

The three webinars are:

April 16 at 1p.m.: Tax Filing Strategies After the Deadline: Presented by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

Now that the 2023 tax season is over, this is the ideal time to begin making the next tax-filing season simpler and more cost-effective. The key is to embrace year-round tax planning. In this webinar, representatives from the IRS will provide valuable advice on year-round tax strategies to help with retirement planning, organizing records, itemizing deductions, and more. They also will offer assistance to those who need help completing extended tax returns. Register here.    

April 17 at 11 a.m.: Renters’ Advice and Homeownership Programs: Presented by the City of Chicago Department of Housing

One of the biggest financial decisions people face is deciding whether to rent short- or long-term or to join the ranks of homeownership. Housing experts from the City’s Department of Housing will offer valuable information and advice to help you make the choice that’s right for you. Register here.

April 18 at 1 p.m.: Chicago Area Re-entry Centers: Your Path to Success: Presented by the City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services

This webinar will teach residents with a prior conviction history about the support services that are available from the City of Chicago’s four Community Re-Entry Support Centers. From workforce development to helping find a job and quality affordable housing, the city’s Re-Entry Centers fer a broad array of services designed to help participants move forward and build a better future.
