On Sunday, June 7, 2020, Colin Powell, former United States Secretary of State, took to the airways to throw his support for Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election this November. Powell, a retired four-star general in the United States Army, is the latest Republican to publicly turn away from Donald Trump.

Former President George W. Bush and Senator Mitt Romney have also stated they will not support the re-election of Donald Trump.

“He has drifted away from the U.S. Constitution and poses a danger to American democracy,” Powell boldly stated.

In an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN, Powell said, “I cannot in any way support President Trump this year,”.  General Powell is the latest member of the military establishment to voice their displeasure of President Trump. Last week, General Jim Mattis, Trump’s former defense secretary, denounced Trump for deliberately dividing the country. Former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairmen Michael Mullen and Martin Dempsey also expressed their concerns about how Trump has handled the country’s ongoing protest.

General Powell spoke candidly about President Trump’s inability to handle the crisis gripping the country and facing the truth.

“He lies all the time,” Powell declared.
