Georgia State University is expected to break its highest ever student enrollment this year.

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia State University is expected to break its highest ever student enrollment this year. Administrators anticipate more than 31,000 students will enroll in the downtown Atlanta university when classes start Monday. The university also expects one its largest ever freshman classes after receiving nearly 13,000 applications, a 45 increase over five years ago. And this year marks Georgia State’s largest ever class of transfer students with more than 2,400 new transfer students. The freshman class has the highest ever grade point average, 3.37, and highest ever SAT score — 1105 out of 1600. About 40 percent of the freshman class is black or Hispanic and more than 80 percent have HOPE scholarships. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
