Four people were shot Wednesday–one fatally–a few blocks from Chicago State University while attending an informal memorial for a man slain earlier that day, police said. At about 9:30 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Burnside Avenue during the remembrance for Michael Johnson –– one of two men gunned down the same day outside a pub in south suburban Calumet City –– an unidentified man with an assault-type weapon opened fire. Johnson’s relatives live near where the shooting occurred. Three men and one woman were shot, and another woman was injured as she tried to get away from the scene, police said. Brittany Barnes, 21, was pronounced dead a few hours later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. A 31-year-old man was grazed in the head and declined medical assistance, a 28-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken in good condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital and a 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the elbow.
