A grant of more than $200,000 will enable more families in Chicago to send their kids to day camps this summer. The nonprofit arm of the Chicago Park District, the Parkways Foundation, put up the money to subsidize eligible children for up to 75 percent of the cost of attending the six week sessions. Families must live in Chicago. And they have to show proof of participation in the federal free- or reduced-lunch program. Others can submit their most recent federal income tax forms and copies of their pay stubs for the last 30 days. The city’s park district provides more than 30,000 youngsters a season of supervised activity at more than 200 local parks. Day camps usually run from the end of June to the beginning of August.
