Former south suburban actor making his way on Broadway, in film

Actor Francois Battiste, formerly of south suburan Dolton and South Holland, has become a noted actor within the last decade.

Actor Francois Battiste, formerly of south suburan Dolton and South Holland, has become a noted actor within the last decade.

The son of Auggeretto and Katheryn Battiste, he was featured this summer in New York’s Shakespeare in the Park and previously co-starred with actor Al Pacino in “The Winter’s Tale” and also played in “The Merchant of Venice.” Following the New York Shakespeare festival Battiste was signed to a role in “Not for Nothing” which is currently filming there. Young Battiste made his Broadway debut as Tom in “Prelude to a Kiss”. Off-Broadway he starred as Pelzie Sullivan in the “Good Negro” for which he received an Obie Award. He was also nominated for the 2009 Lucille Lortel Award for his participation in productions with the White Barn Theater in Norwalk, Connecticut. Other Off-Broadway successes include “Broke-ology” at Lincoln Center, “Ten Things to Do Before I Die” on Second Stage, “Quiver & Twitch” for New York Stage and Film, “Anthony & Cleopatra” with the Shakespeare Society and “Ugly” with The Storm Theater. The actor attended Illinois State University, the British America Academy at Oxford University in England and the Juilliard School of Dramatic Acting. The Thornridge High School grad is also a member of the Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc. MAURICE HARRIS AND REIGNDOWN ENTERPRISES present “Just Ruth”, the story of love, betrayal and forgiveness that is so exciting its action will keep you on the edge of your seat. The production features Black Entertainment Television’s Sunday Best show finalist and Verity Recording artist Shari Addison, Melanie Loren, Cyril Smith, LaSaree Roberts and introducing the rapper Rico Radcliffe at the IIT-Herman Hall, McCormack Theatre, 3201 S. King Dr. The three shows are Friday at 7:45 p.m. and Saturday at 4:45 and 7:45 p.m. Free parking is available after 7 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday.
