Former Simeon high school star Josh Anderson will play college basketball at the University of Illinois-Chicago. UIC head men’s basketball coach Jimmy Collins made the announcement Wednesday. Last season, Anderson averaged 13.2 points and 4.3 rebounds a game for Simeon, which finished second in the state, losing the Class 3-A state championship game to Marshall high school in March. In addition to his scoring and rebounding, Anderson led the entire Public League in a free throw shooting percentage, hitting 98 percent from the charity stripe. Anderson is the son of Simeon and University of Illinois alum Nick Anderson, who was also an NBA star. "We are extremely happy to have Josh join the program," Collins said. "He comes into our program with outstanding athletic and academic credentials, and will represent our university well as a student athlete." ______ Copyright 2008 Chicago Defender.
