Harlem Globetrotters Legend Meadowlark Lemon dies at 83

Former Harlem Globetrotters star Meadowlark Lemon has died. He was 83.
Legendary Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon passed Sunday in Scottsdale, Ariz according to Globetrotter spokesman Brett Meister who confirmed after speaking with Lemon’s wife and daughter. Lemon celebrated his last Christmas Friday. He was 83 years old. Meister did not know the cause of death.
Known as the “clown prince” of the ‘big balling’ basketball team, which combines skill and showmanship on the court. Lemon executed  his brand of hook shots and humor to make many fans throughout the world smile with joy.
Notably the most famous of the Harlem Globetrotters,  Lemon performed for the all-Black team during its heyday from the mid-1950s to the late 1970s.
Lemon was  a remarkable showman as much as he was a solid ball player known  for his confetti-in-the-water-bucket routine as his hook shot and no-look passes. In recognition of both on the court ball playing skills and showmanship  he was inducted into both the basketball and clown hall of fames respectfully.
Never retiring Lemon continue to make a contribution to his community  and formed Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Meadowlark Lemon Ministries, traveling the country to provide a message of faith to children in basketball camps and in youth prisons.
In 2000 Lemon was honored with the highest award given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame outside of induction –John Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003.
