Former Bear Shaun Gayle latest player to sue NFL

CHICAGO (AP) — Former Chicago Bears defensive back Shaun Gayle has joined other former professional football players in suing the National Football League for injuries they say have resulted in debilitating health effects.

In his lawsuit, Gayle alleges multiple head traumas he experienced during his 12-year career has resulted in symptoms in line with the neuro-degenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

Gayle contends in the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Cook County Circuit Court, that the NFL failed to warn him about the potential long-term impact of numerous concussive head traumas.

Gayle teammate Dave Duerson committed suicide last year, leaving word to have his brain examined for damage he believed was caused by repeated blows to the head. Researchers determined Duerson suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which affected his judgment, impulse control, mood and memory.
