Fire at South Side Metra Station Stops Trains

CHICAGO–A fire that started on tracks around the Metra Electric District’s 47th Street Station at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday halted trains.

The South Side station is located at 47th St. and Lake Park Avenue. Will Knight, a spokesman for Chicago Fire Media, said that the fire was small and that it was extinguished immediately. No one was hurt.

Train #119 was scheduled to depart Chicago at 11:30 a.m. and arrive at University Park at 12:30 p.m. That train is no longer operating. The next outbound train is train #121 and will arrive at University Park at 1:30 p.m.

The South Chicago train that was supposed to depart from the 93rd St. stop at 12:21 p.m. and arrive downtown at 1:02 p.m. has not departed. As of now, there is no information on when it will depart.

Train #319 was scheduled to arrive at South Chicago at 11:57 a.m. It is running 60 minutes late.
