CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago filmmaking team is following up a 1999 documentary about Cabrini Green with a new film about the public housing complex’s redevelopment. The last high-rise at Cabrini Green was closed in December, and the remaining low-rise units have been renovated as part of the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan for Transformation. The new film, "Cabrini Green: Mixing it Up," covers a 15-year period from the demolition of the first building to the last resident moving out of the last high-rise. The 1999 documentary "Voices of Cabrini" followed residents during the redevelopment program in the 1990s. Ronit Bezalel, Brenda Schumacher and Mark Pratt make up the filmmaking team. They’re trying to raise $5,000 by Jan. 28 to finish the second film. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
