Feds round up another big counterfeit ID ring

Federal agents in Chicago have launched a fresh crackdown on the sale of counterfeit identification documents on the city’s West Side.

Federal agents in Chicago have launched a fresh crackdown on the sale of counterfeit identification documents on the city’s West Side. The U.S. attorney’s office says 15 alleged members of the ring were rounded up Thursday, and agents are seeking six more. Seventeen months ago, the government swept through the Mexican-American community in an effort to put the so-called Albany Crew out of the false document business. Prosecutors say the so-called St. Louis Crew announced the next day that it was ready to take over where the other crew left off. Prosecutors say documents sold included Social Security Cards, resident alien green cards and various others. AP ______ Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
