EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — Federal agents have returned to the East St. Louis City Hall in search of more documents. City Manager Robert Betts says officials served him with a subpoena early Wednesday afternoon. He says it asked for tax increment financing district records and copies of contracts. Mayor Alvin L. Parks Jr. says Betts gave the agents the documents they wanted. The mayor said he didn’t know if Wednesday’s action was part of the same investigation that sent federal agents to his office in March. On that visit, authorities from the FBI and Internal Revenue Service searched Parks’ City Hall quarters and carted away boxes of documents related to liquor licenses. At the time, Parks said agents were investigating the liquor commission he heads as mayor. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
