FBI spokesman Randall Samborn says police, federal agents and U.S. Marshals began serving arrest warrants on nearly 100 gang members early Wednesday, ending a two-year investigation.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald says he believes the cases against the alleged gang members will "weaken the grip of gangs and drugs in our community."

Authorities say the Cook County state’s attorney’s office obtained arrest warrants for 65 alleged gang members, while federal prosecutors are going after 31.

According to the FBI, the Traveling Vice Lords have reaped between $3,000 and $6,000 per day in drug sales. Those arrested are facing various state and federal narcotics charges.
