The family of Brittney Barnes said they haven’t been updated regarding the investigation of the 21-year-old’s shooting death. Barnes was one of four shot on May 20 in the 9400 block of South Burnside Avenue during a remembrance for Michael Johnson –– one of two men gunned down the same day outside a bar in south suburban Calumet City. She was the only one killed in the shooting. The family of the former Miss Teen Illinois is distraught that she was taken away so soon, her cousin Rica King told the Defender. “The person who murdered Brittney and God only knows who else continues to walk the streets of our communities wreaking havoc as he or she pleases. Let’s get this person behind bars and make our streets a little more safe,” said King. No one is in custody in the ongoing investigation, police said. King said Barnes had a generous heart and brightened the day of those she came in contact with. “From the time she could talk, she used her gift of songs to inspire any and everyone who had an opportunity to hear her.
