DETROIT (AP) — Former Detroit School Board President Otis Mathis has turned himself in on charges of misconduct in office related to a complaint that he fondled himself in front of an employee. The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says the 55-year-old Mathis will be processed Friday on the charges. He faces arraignment Tuesday in 36th District Court in Detroit. Mathis was charged Wednesday with the five-year felony and obscene conduct, a 90-day misdemeanor. He resigned from the board June 17 following the allegations by Superintendent Teresa Gueyser, who filed a complaint with the school district’s Public Safety department a day after a private meeting with Mathis. Mathis wrote to the board that he "made inappropriate actions toward a professional employee" and that he regretted his actions. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
