Ex-Cop Who Shot Breonna Taylor Won’t Get His Job Back

A Louisville police board declined to give former detective Myles Cosgrove his job back after he appealed his January 2021 termination.

Cosgrove is the ex-cop who fired the shot that killed 26-year-old Breonna Taylor during a botched no-knock raid on March 13, 2020. Cosgrove, along with former Louisville Metro detective Joshua Jaynes were fired from the Department earlier this year in connection to the fatal raid –– including the unverified information used to obtain the warrant on Taylor’s apartment.

Taylor and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker II, were asleep when officers broke down the door of her apartment. Walker fired shots at the officers, thinking they were intruders.

Officers fired back, with Cosgrove firing 16 shots into Taylor’s home, killing her.

Six months after the shooting –– and before his termination –– it was discovered Cosgrove was raising funds for his retirement using the Christian crowdfunding website, GiveSendGo. A profile for the former cop claims his “reputation has been completely dismantled.”

The Louisville Police Union released a statement before this week’s hearing, calling Cosgrove’s “unjustified.”

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said Taylor’s shooting death was “justified” because Walker fired on officers first. A grand jury seated on the case started a petition to impeach Cameron, accusing the Republican AG misleading evidence and rule of law in the case.
