A former Chicago police officer has been sentenced to almost 11 years in prison for ripping off drug dealers. Richard Doroniuk was also ordered to return $16,000 in stolen money. The 33-year-old Doroniuk pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and using a gun to commit a violent crime. Federal Judge Robert Gettleman says the case represented "a terribly tragic situation" because Doroniuk began caring for his fiancee’s children after she died of cancer. But he says that when people call police "we want not to be worried that if they come, we can be robbed or abused or subjected to excessive force or worse." ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
