Ex-Chicago Bulls player's ex-girlfriend killed

An attorney for New York Knicks player Eddy Curry said a woman found shot to death in Chicago is Curry’s former girlfriend and the mother of his 3-year-old son. Attorney Kelly Saindon said Sunday in Chicago that Curry — a former player for the Chicago Bulls — is devastated by the slayings of Nova Henry and her infant daughter. "It’s just horrible," Saindon said. "His entire family is devastated." Curry’s 3-year-old son was found unharmed at the scene. Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said a relative found the bodies of 24-year-old Henry and her 9-month-old daughter, Ava, in their apartment Saturday evening. No one had been charged in the case as of Sunday evening. Both victims died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Chicago police offered few details of the investigation at a news conference Sunday. Deputy Superintendent Steve Peterson said police did not have a suspect in custody and he declined to give further information. Police believe the killings on the city’s near South Side were the result of a domestic dispute, Peterson said. But he did not elaborate. Rob Bryant, who said he was Nova Henry’s uncle, told a Chicago newspaper that Henry had a restraining order against her boyfriend. "She was trying to avoid all this," Bryant said. Peterson would only say police want to talk to someone who was "the object of an order of protection," but that they haven’t been able to locate the person. Peterson said he did know where Curry’s son may have been in the apartment during the attacks, saying only that the boy "was found safe and sound and uninjured." It has been a troubled month for Curry, who was traded by the Bulls to the Knicks in 2005. Earlier this month, Curry’s former driver filed a lawsuit accusing Curry of owing him money, sexually harassing him and berating him with racist slurs. Curry has denied the accusations. In July 2007, masked robbers broke into Curry’s suburban Chicago home and robbed his family at gunpoint. Curry wasn’t injured, but he was tied up with duct tape while the gunmen stole jewelry and cash from his home. The Knicks issued a statement on Curry’s behalf Sunday asking the news media to respect the privacy of Henry’s and Curry’s families. "The Curry family is deeply saddened by this tragic loss and will keep the Henry family in their prayers," the statement said. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
