HARARE, Zimbabwe — Police say a truck hit a bus head-on in Zimbabwe, killing 11 people including six members of a family returning from a funeral. Rangarirai Mushaurwa, an assistant police commissioner, said Wednesday the truck driver, who was among the dead, was trying to overtake a third vehicle Tuesday night just outside Harare. The 10 other victims also were riding in the truck. Earlier this month, 40 people were killed when a bus collided with a truck south of Harare. Such accidents are common in Zimbabwe and are blamed on excessive speed, poor maintenance of vehicles, worn tires and poor roads. Routine road repairs have stopped amid the nation’s economic meltdown. ______ In photo: Medical staff at the Narok district hospital tend to a man injured in a bus accident which killed at least 22 people, in Narok, Kenya, Wednesday, July 22, 2009.
