Elementary school renamed in honor of Langford

On Friday, Copernicus Elementary School, 6010 S. Throop, was renamed to honor the legacy of a late, former alderman.

On Friday, Copernicus Elementary School, 6010 S. Throop, was renamed to honor the legacy of a late, former alderman. The school is now Anna R. Langford Academy, in honor of Langford who served the 16th Ward, where she became the first Black woman elected to the City Council in 1971. JoAnn Thompson is now the ward’s alderman.
