Stray bullets pierced a home in the 6500 block of South Green Street Wednesday, hitting an 8-year-old boy who was watching TV in his bedroom, police said. At around 11:30 p.m., shots rang out from the street and entered the second-floor bedroom window where the boy was. He sustained gunshot wounds to his back and arm and was taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, said Chicago Police News Affairs officer JoAnn Taylor. It hasn’t been determined what sparked the gunfire and no one is in custody, Taylor said. Two other children were shot in similar circumstances in the Englewood neighborhood. In March 2006, Starkesia Reed and Siretha White were both fatally shot in separate incidents by stray gunfire while in their homes. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved.
