WASHINGTON — Sen. Dick Durbin has sent President Barack Obama his short list of the people he thinks should be the U.S. attorneys and marshals for central and southern Illinois. The recommendations are based on those of bipartisan screening panels in Illinois. Durbin supports assistant U.S. attorneys Gregory Harris or James Lewis for central Illinois’ U.S. attorney. The senator’s short list for U.S. marshal in that region includes Deputy Marshal Kenneth Bohac, Adams County Sheriff Brent Fisher, and the region’s former marshal, Robert Moore. In southern Illinois, Durbin recommends incumbent A. Courtney Cox or Belleville attorney Stephen Wigginton as U.S. attorney. For that region’s U.S. marshal, Durbin’s suggests incumbent Don Slazinek, Transportation Security Administration official Jack Fox or Cahokia Police Chief Richard Watson. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
