Dr. Tyra L. Dean-Ousley, affectionately known as Dr.Tyra, is on a mission to inspire Chicagoans to prioritize their health for a better quality of life.
As National Nurses Week approaches from May 6 through 12, 2024, and National Nurses Month throughout the month of May, Dr. Tyra underscores the pivotal role of nurses in fostering healthier communities.
Dr. Tyra, EdD, MSN, FPA, FNP-BC is a respected nursing leader, educator, clinician, and consultant with over 30 years of experience. The native Chicagoan has always been passionate about the nursing profession and has witnessed firsthand the dedication and hard work of nurses. She believes that nurses are the unsung heroes of the healthcare industry, who deserve to be recognized and appreciated for their invaluable contributions.
“Education is like a circle, it never ends. It’s a lifelong journey,” says Dr. Tyra. She has therefore established the Count Me In Campaign (www.CountMeInCampaign.com) to provide scholarships to help nursing students in need to buy textbooks for their studies. The scholarship fund is a step towards addressing the nursing shortage and recognizing the hard work and dedication of nurses. By providing this support, Dr. Tyra hopes to alleviate some of the financial stress and allow students to focus on their academic studies.
This year the American Nurses Association (ANA) has selected the theme, “Nurses Make the Difference,” to honor the many roles of nurses and their positive impact on our lives. Both Dr. Tyra and the ANA emphasize that nurses make a difference as trusted advocates who ensure individuals, families, and communities receive quality patient care and services.
