Thornton Township Supervisor and Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard and her companion owe nearly $5,000 in back rent, according to her landlord, Genetta Hull.
Hull claims Henyard and Kamal Woods, with whom Henyard lives, haven’t paid their $2,400 monthly rent for September or October on the Dolton home they lease. In August, they only paid $2,200.
“I would have told the judge she owes me $5,000 in back rent, plus any late fees,” Hull told ABC 7 Chicago. However, Hull never got the chance to make her case, as neither Henyard nor Woods showed up for their scheduled court date on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, Cook County sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve Henyard and Woods with eviction papers at both the home and Dolton Village Hall but were unsuccessful, according to court records.
Hull told ABC 7 that her frustration mirrors Henyard’s struggles with the stalled Thornton Township board meetings. On Tuesday evening, Henyard waited for a quorum to start a scheduled bi-monthly meeting.
“Thank you for coming out this evening. We’re waiting to see if we have a quorum,” said Henyard. Without enough board members present, the meeting was called off before it even began.
“Our job is to pay the bills, pass ordinances, and ensure you know what we’ve been doing over the past month. Eventually, this will end up in court because this can’t continue,” Henyard said, visibly frustrated.
Hull’s frustration deepened when she arrived at the home on Saturday for maintenance, only to find the locks and garage door code had been changed.
“I’m bewildered,” Hull said. “The same tactics she’s using with the trustees—changing locks on offices—is what she does to everyone. This behavior has to stop. It’s not how a public servant should act.”
