Discover to Bring Close to 1,000 Jobs to South Side Residents.

Discover Chatham Chicago DefenderDiscover has announced plans to open a new customer care center in Chatham. Opening by the end of 2021, the center will bring close to 1,000 full-time jobs to South Side residents by 2024.  Occupying the former Target building on 86th and Cottage Grove, the new center will also have 5,000 sq. feet of community space. The space will allow for large group gatherings, training, and conferences. Additionally, the space will be available for use by community-based organizations.

Juatise Gathing

Juatise Gathing will lead the new Discover center. Juatise, a former Roseland community member, has ten years of experience with Discover. She previously worked at three of their customer service centers during her tenure.  Most of the positions will be for customer service representatives. Hourly wages are to begin at $17 and include full benefits, 20 days PTO, and tuition reimbursement.  Leadership and customer service positions will be announced as early as April. With plans to hire a first class of 15 agents in June. Discover plans to have over 150 agents employed by the end of this year. These positions will be operating out of a temporary space in Chatham until the center is open.

Discover has partnered with Skills for Chicagoland’s Future for help with staffing needs. With local talent receiving prioritization. Also, Discover is working with Mayor Lightfoot’s office, city Aldermen, and community leaders.  The new site supports Mayor Lightfoot’s INVEST South/West community improvement initiative. This will provide job opportunities to residents of INVEST South/West neighborhoods. Including Roseland, Pullman, Auburn Gresham, South Shore, South Chicago, and Greater Englewood. Discover also supports the Together We Rise initiative. This is to help ensure a fair recovery in the wake of the pandemic.
