Dozens of voters got a ride to the polls from the Chicago Defender last week. Like a number of faith-based and other community organizations do each election cycle, the Defender and volunteers like Craig Gilmore of State Farm Insurance helped to get out the vote by taking seniors, the disabled and anyone else who wanted to cast a ballot but was limited by transportation issues to the polls.

Cook County election officials estimated record voter turnout, with more than 80 percent of eligible voters said to have cast a vote in the historic Nov. 4 election.
