I’m a 17-year-old who is graduating. I’m very excited about attending my prom, but the guy who I was dating told me a week ago that he doesn’t want to be my date anymore. I’m so devastated. I don’t know what to do because prom is just two weeks away and I need a new date. Please help.

Dear Sitting Here All Dressed Up With No Date,
I hate to hear stories like this, but it’s going to be okay. I am very proud of you for graduating, and I hope that you will continue your education. As for this young man, he’s a jerk for leaving the relationship especially this close to your prom. Let it go and move on. I’m sure you have enough friends, neighbors and a favorite male cousin you could ask to escort you to your prom. The main concern about prom is going with someone you will have a good time with and who will be a gentleman. I can definitely understand how you are feeling, trust me, but prom night is all about having a ball. Ask your parents if they have any friends with teen sons your age and maybe set something up that way. Have the guys come and spend a day with you to get to know who you are. Next thing you know, you will have a few to choose from. Here’s to you being the toast of the town! Be encouraged.
