Dear Chat Daddy,

I’m a 32-year-old male who has been laid off from my job since February and, for the most part, I’ve been able to make my ends meet. But I’ve fallen further and further into debt because I’ve not paid my mortgage in months. I’m beginning to become worried because I received a notice from my bank lender saying they’ve placed a judgment against me. Because of my lack of funds I want to know where can I go to get help with my problem before I end up homeless? Please advise.

-Trying My Best Not To Become Homeless

Dear Trying My Best Not To Become Homeless,

Brother you are not alone, due to the recent downturn of the economy. It has placed a lot of people in the distressed homeowners category. Because I’m not an attorney or a real-estate expert, the best advice I can give is to always keep the faith that you will not lose your home and that this economy will get better because without faith everything you do will turn into a negative, stressfully draining process. Seek the help of an attorney. Try searching the Web for free programs and civic groups that support distressed homeowners. Keep yourself in the right frame of mind through it all because you’ve got to believe that help is on the way. Be encouraged.
