Deal reached for City Colleges of Chicago staff

CHICAGO (AP) — The City Colleges of Chicago and the Cook County Teachers Union have announced an agreement on terms for a five-year contract.

Among other things, the deal provides for a cost-of-living adjustment of 2.5 percent per year for union members.

Union members, in turn, will see their health care contributions increase from 13 percent to 16 percent over the life of the contract.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel praised the deal Saturday. It still must be approved by the City Colleges of Chicago Board of Trustees, which will vote Sept. 13.

Emanuel is locked in negotiations with the Chicago Teachers Union and is facing a possible strike by public school teachers.

He said the City Colleges deal showed what can be accomplished when both sides work for “what is best for our students.”
