Deadlines Fast Approaching For Leadership Programs For Local High Schoolers

University of Chicago’s sought after Upward Bound and STEM Investigators Programs For Teens Are Taking Applications

UChicago Upward Bound

 Deadlines are coming up quickly for the University of Chicago’s programs for local teens.

The Upward Bound at UChicago program, which runs year-round and is free, provides students with Tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, work-study programs and workshops on financial and economic literacy. It also provides college entrance exam prep, financial aid application assistance and Saturday academic skills enrichment plus college tours, which include an on-campus residential stay at the University of Chicago.

Several students who enter this program go on to four -year institutions, including some in the Ivy League. Eligible students interested in UChicago Upward Bound must be between grades 9-12 and attend one of four high schools near the University of Chicago: Walter H. Dyett High School for the arts, Hyde Park High School, Emil G. Hirsch Metropolitan High School or Wendell Phillips Academy High School.

Other requirements include:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • An interest in attending college
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Neither parent can have a four-year college degree
  • The family must meet low-income guidelines

UChicago STEM Investigators

UChicago STEM Investigators provides high school freshmen, sophomore and junior students an opportunity to combine college-level course work with their interests in science, math, science or technology. Student who matriculate through this program are exposed to the lifestyle and rigors of college, and have a great opportunity to learn more about what it takes to success in college.
