EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A woman whose father was recently tapped to an Illinois House seat is filling her dad’s place on East St. Louis’ city council.

Emeka Jackson on Monday night was appointed to the council seat to which Eddie Jackson won re-election last month.

She took over moments after Eddie Jackson was sworn in as an alderman then immediately stepped down to make way for his replacement.

Eddie Jackson has been a 114th District state representative since January. He was appointed to replace the late Wyvetter Younge (Wy-VET’-ter YUNG).

He’d been on the East St. Louis City Council since 1979.

Emeka Jackson works for the Illinois Capital Development Board’s fair employment practices unit.
