Cultural performances continue around the city and suburbs

ART OF THE DUET WEDNESDAY at the MCA Stage at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave. Ashley Wheater, artistic director of the Jeffrey Ballet provides an exploration of the dance duet consisting of "In the Night," choreographed by Jerome Robbins (1944), "Jangle" (Four Hungarian Dances), choreographed by Lars Lubovitch (2008) and other works include "In The Night," (1944), "Liturgy" (2003) and "Gnawa" (2005).

BLACK ENSEMBLE THEATER, 4520 N. Beacon St., continues "Sex in the Summer in the City" produced by Jackie Taylor, founder and executive director, through August 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11 p.m. Ticket prices are $20, with refreshments $50.

THE VOICES OF OUR GRANDPARENTS an original children’s musical, written by Margaret Mahdi, celebrates the spirits, voices and wisdom of our ancestors expressed by youth. Performances at Muhammad University of Islam, 7351 S. Stony Island Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Famous individuals represented include Langston Hughes, Billie Holiday, Rosa Parks and others. Admission is $20 for adults, $12 for children and senior citizens. Group discounts available.

FLEETWOOD-JOURDAIN THEATRE is producing Nilaja Sun’s play, "No Child," directed by Ebony Joy, at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St. in suburban Evanston. Performances are Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

RAVINIA FESTIVAL in Highland Park is presenting artist Taj Mahal and Bonnie Raitt in concert Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m., in the Pavilion.

THE EROICA TRIO will be interpreting the music of Gershwin’s "Porgy and Bess Fantasy," Bernstein’s "West Side Story Suite," Gershwin’s "Three Preludes" and Mendelssohn’s "Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Opus 49" in the Martin Theatre at 8 p.m.
