The Chicago Cubs want to send some much-needed supplies to those impacted by the devastating tornadoes in central Illinois on Sunday. And they need your help.
The Cubs are urging fans to drop off donations at Wrigley Field’s Purple Lot — between Waveland Avenue and Addison Street — between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Thursday and 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. CT on Friday, according to MLB.com.
The team has prioritized the following items the American Red Cross said tornado victims need:
- Plastic storage bins, trash cans and buckets
- Tote bags and large garbage bags
- Gloves
- Nonperishable food and bottled water
- Toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant, soap, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products)
- Sponges, mops,
- Baby formula and diapers
- Flashlights and batteries
- Manual can openers
- Duct tape
- School supplies (backpacks, crayons, notebooks, colored pencils)
According to CSN Chicago, volunteers will be driving all the donated items to the Peoria area on Friday afternoon.
The Chicago Bears, too, are pitching in to make an impact for tornado victims. The team on Wednesday launched an online auction benefiting the American Red Cross’ relief efforts in central Illinois. The Chicago Tribune reports a game ball signed by Marc Trestman, plus uniform parts worn by Bears players during their 23-20 overtime win over the Ravens, are up for grabs through Sunday, Nov. 24.
Finally, Comcast SportsNet is also doing something special for th
e town of Washington, Ill. The channel will be airing Washington High School’s playoff game against Sacred Heart Griffin High School live at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The game will also be streamed for free online at IHSA.tv, according to the Peoria Journal Star.
Contributions to the American Red Cross to help Illinois tornado victims can also be made online, by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by texting REDCROSS at 90999 to make a $10 donation.
