The city’s public school system may be looking to make some changes to schools this year that could include a number of closures. “There is no final list of schools at this time because right now we are discussing what changes to make,” said Malon Edwards, a spokesman for Chicago Public Schools. “And while nothing is finalized yet, what I can confirm is that there will be some schools turned around, closed, consolidated and phased out.” How many schools may be affected has not been determined either, he added. CPS officials may hold a news conference later this week to announce more details of some schools’ fate. The Chicago Teachers Union held a forum Saturday at Malcolm X College on the West Side to inform parents about the pending changes. Schools reportedly slated for changes are located in predominantly Black communities. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved.
