County Elected Officials and Employees to Receive CPR/AED Training Provided by Illinois Heart Rescue

Cook County Elected Officials and their employees will have the opportunity to receive “Hands Only” CPR/AED training in conjunction with American Heart Month. Last year Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller (D-6th) introduced and passed legislation to develop a countywide CPR/AED training awareness campaign and increased access for county employees. The legislation was prompted by the fact that the majority of cardiac arrests occur in public settings as well as the need to raise awareness and training access for county employees. Last year Cook County Board Commissioners and their staff, as well as the Cook County Health System Board and executive leadership took the lead by taking part in this vital training. This year’s training is a continuation of that effort.

“I’m grateful to Illinois Heart Rescue and their Director Teri Campbell for partnering with us again this year to expand the training to give Cook County Elected Officials and their employees the opportunity to get this important life-saving training” said Commissioner Miller, adding “We know that immediate bystander CPR and/or AED usage after a cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival, and just last month we honored a county employee who saved someone in distress at the scene of an accident using CPR, which proves just how valuable it is”.

“Heart disease is still the No. 1 cause of death in the United States as well as in Cook County and anything we can do to help improve outcomes is vitally important. I’m very proud to lead this ongoing effort, and encourage everyone to take the time to get trained, you’ll be glad you did,” said Commissioner Miller.

The training will take place Tuesday, February 18th from 9am-4pm at the County Building at 118 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL.
