Cook County has more than 100,000 early votes

Cook County election officials say nearly 101,000 people have cast ballots early for the upcoming election.

Cook County election officials say nearly 101,000 people have cast ballots early for the upcoming election. Clerk David Orr said Thursday that turnout in the county that includes Chicago has been a "blockbuster." He says "grace period" registration and voting also jumped to more than 4,100 from the previous high of 561, reached during the February primary. From Oct. 8-21, voters in suburban Cook County who missed the regular registration deadline could register and vote at the same time. Orr says more than 20,000 suburban Cook voters have requested absentee ballots. He says absentee ballot numbers could be a little lower this election because of the turnout for early voting.  AP ______ Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
