Saturday, November 5, the Cook County Bar Association in conjunction with Clerk of the Court, Dorothy Brown and Mothers Matter for Justice will host a forum on how the police and the court system work after officer-involved shootings and violence in general.
The meeting will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ – 400 W. 95th Street, Chicago – from 1 – 4 p.m. In attendance will be representatives from the Clerk of the Court Office, Chicago Police Department, Cook County Coroner, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Victim Compensation and the Fire Department to share their expertise.
Continuing the dialogue started at previous Town Hall meetings, Natalie Howse, president of the Cook County Bar Association said: “Not only do we need to have open dialogue with the community about the instances of police involved shooting, we need to assist those impacted most – the families.”
Topic to be discussed: Who should be contacted when a family member is killed? What is the process for obtaining 911 recordings, EMT reports, CPD reports or coroner reports? How to obtain court case file information, video footage from POD cameras, body cameras, dash cams or personal video. Where can families find assistance in the case of violent deaths and more.
