CHICAGO (AP) — The city of Chicago will use a management consulting company to evaluate its procurement procedures in an attempt to save taxpayer money.
The office of Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the initiative Thursday. It hopes to identify $25 million in savings.
Emanuel said in a statement released by his office that the planned evaluations by Accenture are part a wider bid to change how the cash-strapped city procures services.
Accenture’s first step will be to complete a full analysis of city spending. Later, the consulting firm will single out contracts it concludes could be renegotiated or re-bid to reduce costs.
Emanuel’s office says some anticipated savings would be seen next year. The full $25 million in savings wouldn’t be realized until 2013.
