On Saturday (Nov. 23), families and community leaders came together for a Thanksgiving meal giveaway hosted by Harvest Worship Center Ministries.

Organizers distributed 500 bags of food through a drive-thru-style pick-up, each containing a festive turkey or a ham, to support local families and community members in need. Event sponsor DoorDash provided $5,000 to support the event, allowing the Church to help ensure that residents could enjoy a warm meal for the holiday.

“Everyone deserves a warm Thanksgiving meal to share with their loved ones,” said Pastor Cornelius Parks of Harvest Worship Center Ministries. “We are proud to have the opportunity to provide local residents a celebration of this holiday at no cost. Thanks to DoorDash’s generous support, we’re able to bring comfort and connection to many tables this Thanksgiving.”

“DoorDash was thrilled to help support this impactful event for neighbors to help make sure every family could celebrate Thanksgiving together over a shared meal,” said Clark Kaericher, DoorDash’s Head of Government Relations in Illinois. “It’s an honor to continue partnering with Pastor Parks, who is such a committed leader and advocate for his community, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together to serve those in need.”

Through its community engagement programs, DoorDash has partnered with a wide variety of organizations in Chicago, including the Grace and Peace Church, Fox Valley United Way, CHAMPS Male Mentoring, United Giving Hope, LaTanya and the Youth of Englewood, Greater Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Heartland Alliance’s NEON Program, John A. Hamline Elementary School, South Side YMCA, Ravenswood Elementary, Sarah’s Circle, TCA Health and more.

In 2023, Pastor Parks wrote in the Lawndale News about faith leaders’ role in addressing food insecurity and how partnerships with companies like DoorDash can help support this crucial work.
