Oak Forest, Ill. — Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller (D-Dist. 6) in partnership with Sutton Ford-Lincoln, Illinois School Bus Company, Greenlee Law Group and Rewards Luxury Development is bringing 100 youth from the 6th District to Soldier Field on Saturday, Sept. 14, to watch the 22nd Annual Chicago Football Classic between The Hampton University Pirates vs. The Howard University Bison.
“I’m so excited to be able to host our young people at this prestigious event”, said Miller, adding, “I’m proud to be a 3rd generation Howard University graduate — My grandmother, grandfather and father all attended Howard as well as my sister. My parents believed in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s), and wanted me to experience attending one since the day I was born, a true example of parents know best.”
The Chicago Football Classic (CFC) was founded in 1997 by a small local group of African American businessmen, Larry Huggins, Everett Rand and Tim Rand, as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging African American youth to achieve their personal best in school and beyond. The Chicago Football Classic empowers students to not only complete high school, but also attend HBCU’s.
“The organizers of the CFC commit to always making sure students from Chicago Public Schools get the exposure to HBCU’s and I also wanted to extend that same experience to students from the South Suburban area,” Miller said.
Many Hall of Famers and current NFL players have attended Historically Black Universities such as Jerry Rice, Michael Strahan, our very own Chicago Bear Great Walter Payton, and current Bear All-Pro Tarik Cohen.
“I encourage anyone who loves football to come out and enjoy the game as well as the weekend festivities, like the College Fair and the famous Battle of the Bands,” said Miller. “I think this event is such a worthwhile cause and hope all those that can, will support the CFC scholarship program with the knowledge that you’re contributing to the success of our young people, our County and our Country. Let’s Fill the Stadium and GO BISONS!!!”
