The first of its kind in ComEd’s 130-year history; a new 51,000 square feet, state-of-the-art training facility, located at 3535 S. Iron has opened in Bridgeport. The stunning facility includes fully operable utility poles indoors as well as a 138,000 square feet, outdoor training facilities. Built as part of a $2.6 billion investment brought by the 2012, Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act, passed by the Illinois General Assembly to update Chicago’s regional electricity infrastructure.
Dignitaries from the mayor to Alderman Patrick Thompson (11th Ward), joined ComEd’s CEO, Anne Pramaggiore, in welcoming the center to the community as it has committed to training up to 4,000 employees per year.
In addition, to training ComEd employees the facility will also offer individuals who are interested in the construction trades, training opportunities. One program launched in 2013, CONSTRUCT, is an 11-week program offering more than 60 students the training, information, and guidance needed to compete for good-paying, entry-level jobs in construction-related fields.
