WASHINGTON — The man who’s overseeing the government’s response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill says the cap on the damaged oil well is now keeping up to 462,000 gallons of oil a day from leaking into the Gulf. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen says crews hope to increase the amount that’s collected at the surface. He says BP is anticipating moving another ship into the area. Speaking at the White House, where he’ll be meeting with Cabinet members, Allen also said the battle against the oil that’s already in the Gulf now involves "hundreds of thousands" of individual patches of oil.
