City planning gourmet food festival

CHICAGO The beer and bratwurst crowd already have their yearly food binge during the summer with the Taste of Chicago.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting the city of Chicago is now looking into giving wine and brie lovers their annual food event, which would feature food more delicate than a half-pound, grilled turkey leg.

Chicago Gourmet, billed as "a celebration of food and wine," is expected to feature several of the city’s nationally known chefs when it runs from September 26 through September 28 in Millennium Park.

The city is mum on the details, pending a news conference May 20. But celebrity chefs including Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill, Paul Kahan of Blackbird, and pastry wizard Gale Gand are reportedly on board.

According to the Illinois Restaurant Association Web site, in addition to food and wine tastings, plans are in the works for cooking demonstrations, classes and special dining events. (AP)
